Being a catechist is more than being a teacher in the education field. A catechist is a teacher who journeys with a person as they develop in their faith. Catechists are responsible for using the Faith in Life curriculum to teach class weekly. Volunteer Childcare is provided by our St. Ignatius Middle School and McGill-Toolen High School students if needed for any catechist who has children too young to enroll in our program. A list of substitute teachers is provided for catechists to choose from when family obligations arise. If you are interested in being involved as a catechist, please contact Brittany DeFalco 251-459-9395
While we do have a team of committed catechists teaching our classes weekly, there are times when a catechist has prior and important personal obligations that prevent them from being present to their class. When these occasions of absence occur, we rely on our volunteer subs to step up and cover the class. A lesson plan will be provided to the sub covering the class following the Faith in Life Curriculum. Volunteer Childcare is also provided by our St. Ignatius Middle School and McGill-Toolen High School students should it be needed for the substitute's children.
All St. Ignatius School Middle School Students and McGill-Toolen High School Students are invited to care for catechists' children while they teach. This is a great service hour opportunity offered every Sunday classes meet. Religious Ed Baby Sitter's Club Sign-Up
